On a recent rainy day, I knew we needed to get out of the house. So my husband and I gathered the troops and we headed out on an adventure – which was basically my husband’s daily commute. But the kids adored it and we felt pretty good about doing something different besides the usual museum or play centre. Plus… it was free (if you don’t count the bus pass).
We started by taking the bus to the metro, which was pretty exciting in and of itself. But when the train arrived? Woo hoo!
We got off at Square Victoria.
We then walked underground to Caisse de Depot.
The kids just loved all the open space and running around – even if we cringed sometimes at where they were running their hands.
The tunnel to Caisse is actually pretty cool. It’s all white with lights.
We headed up to explore the huge parcours at Caisse which is open to the public Monday – Friday during daytime hours.
Then it was off to Palais de Congres again through a tunnel (remember it was raining!)
The rainbow windows, lipstick forest and Viger Hall were a hit and kids had fun exploring.
We ended our little escapade at Place d’Armes Metro and headed home.
This may sound mind-numbenly boring but if you need to get out and it’s raining or -40C it’s a lot better than going crazy inside. The kids especially loved the transport but I know they had a lot of fun running around the different areas – the huge expanses of space at Palais Congres, Caisse, and even down the tunnels.
It was only a couple hours but it took up most of our morning and tired our kids out. Perfect!
Any other ideas for getting out and about when the weather outside isn’t co-operating? I’d love to hear.
