Melk Bar à Café – Monkland welcomes the Third Wave

I was so happy to see a new place on Monkland occupying the long empty Kaos Makeup space, gutted by the Lucille’s fire.  I was even happier to find out it would be an independent café run by a super friendly couple.  Melk Bar à Café is a third wave café – where the coffee is carefully selected, and of single bean origin.  Where the coffee company (in this case Forty Ninth Parallel out of Vancouver) works hard with local farmers to improve their crops, and build relationships.  Where the baristas take their trade seriously, using top quality beans, and equipment and executing every step perfectly.

I was also extremely impressed by the quality of the baking, and since I’ve had their scones haven’t stopped thinking about them since.

They have a little terrace which is often shaded, and tables inside for lingering.  I encourage you to stop by and check them out!
