Newborn Photoshoot

I was so excited to photograph this wonderful family and their newborn little girl.  They were absolutely delightful and it was so much fun.  It reminded me why I decided to start doing lifestyle photography professionally.

I don’t do a typical posed newborn session with props, studio lights and backgrounds.  Instead, all sessions are in-home using natural light.

I wanted to use this post to show those who were curious what a session may look like.  I guarantee 30 high-resolution digital downloads so I’ve included 30 photos in this post (although the family received many more).

A lifestyle photo session basically means that I’m showing the everyday – favourite toys, families laughing together, quiet moments and bursts of joy.  Within those moment, I create portraits that are natural and honest.

I ask all my clients to complete a questionnaire to find out who they are, what they are interested in and what they want to remember from their photos.  This gives me some direction so that I can capture what is important to them right now.

This wonderful family was into laughing, reading with their kids and space (the husband is an engineer in the space industry and the son was in love with his space ship.)

They wanted to remember the sparkle in their son’s eyes, his love of Star Wars books, his trains and reading.

The newborn baby was beautiful.  Of course, there were moments when she was unhappy, needed to be nursed or needed a change and that was totally fine.  I think that’s what’s so wonderful about in-home newborn sessions.  You’re in the comfort of your own home, with all your essentials right there.For their newborn daughter they wanted to remember her frowny face, tiny fingers and funny little feet.  It made me laugh as I was editing the photos as she really does have a frowny little face!

I made sure to get shots of the kids on their own, shots of the different combination of parents and kids, and I even snuck in a shot of the parents together.  

It turned out so well, and I was so happy that the family was pleased with their photos.
