Perhaps it’s because I come from car loving Canada but I am always amazed at how quiet the streets are in the City of London (except for that horrible mess around Liverpool Street Station).  You can almost always look both ways on the arteries running roughly West to East and there are very few cars. This is because almost everyone gets into the City of London by train or tube.  It’s pretty amazing if you think about it.
