Traditions in the Family

Norman Rockwell - Thanksgiving

Do you have any family traditions that you’d like to have with your kids?  I have to say, I don’t think we really had any in our house growing up apart from those that had to do with the holidays but I’m keen to introduce some in our household today.

Simple things, that we can do as a family.

For example, right now Friday night is pizza night.  When I have time, it will be home made pizza and everyone can choose what they want on their pizza.  This will be followed by a movie and when the kids are old enough we will make it a board game night too.

Sundays I’d like to do a family activity followed by a big early afternoon dinner.  This family activity will most likely be skiing in the winter and swimming in the summer.  Right now we spend most sunday evenings with my husbands family but when I get a grip on reality it would be nice to host them at ours sometimes too.

RIght now I’m pretty much attached to my kids (almost literally in the case of my four month old) but in the future I think it’s important to make sure that family time is set aside in the flow of activities and friends.

Do you have any traditions?

And yes, this is a rather Rockwellian vision of the future.  I’m allowed…
