Where I want to eat NOW

Bastien BagelTurns out eating bagels are actually pretty mess for a 2 year old!

I rarely eat out (should I be admitting this as a food blogger?!) and I am fortunate to receive a lot of media invitations to restaurants and openings which I also am usually unable to attend.  So when I DO manage to go out, I don’t want to just head to some random restaurant.  It’s got to be interesting, appealing, and if it’s for lunch it’s most likely got to be baby friendly.

These picks are all in in the ‘hood (NDG, Westmount, St-Henri).  Luckily St-Henri in particular is booming and there’s a lot going on.  I won’t be able to hit up all these places (hello, I’m giving birth in a month) but I’ll try and fit in a few before and then when things calm down a few after….  I’m sure there are a million other places to try (Manitoba in Mile-Ex, Ha in the Plateau, Tapas 24 in Old Montreal….) but these are the ones I might realistically actually make it to!  Lunch is much more likely than dinner so I’ve focused mostly on places open for lunch.

Cafe Zephyr – NDG – A little cafe serving farm to table fair.  See a write up in Urban Expressions.  Open for lunch!

Foyer – Saint-Henri (Notre Dame just west of Atwater) – Described as pizza, salads, fresh fish, daily specials and dessert.  Open for lunch!

Le Bon Vivant – Saint-Henri (Notre Dame just east of Atwater) – Looks like they have some pretty amazing and inventive sandwiches.  Open for lunch but their hours aren’t listed.

Sumac – Saint-Henri (Notre Dame west of Atwater) Not opened yet at time of writing but due to open this fall – Middle Eastern restaurant specializing in falafel, shawarm, salads and spreads.  I freaking love that stuff.  From what they are serving I assume they’ll be open for lunch.

Henri Saint-Henri – Saint-Henri (Notre Dame west of Atwater) – Not open for lunch but looks like it could be a fun place for dinner.  They also have a boutique!

Rotisserie Sud-West – Saint-Henri (Notre Dame just west of Atwater) – Open for lunch and take out.  I have a friend that has eaten here a couple times and says it’s pretty good.

Grinder – Griffintown (Notre Dame east of Atwater) – They seem to have a bunch of raw stuff which I am not totally down with (especially now while pregnant!) but the rest of the menu looks pretty good too.  It’s a bit on the more expensive side (I didn’t see a specific lunch menu) so maybe for a special treat?  But.. open for lunch!

Pho Sure – Westmount – OK I can’t find any sort of webpage for it but I saw this pho restaurant in Westmount while driving.  Anyone eat there?

Edwinas – NDG/Westmount – (Sherbrooke east of Decarie in the NDG part of Westmount) – Recommended by a friend this looks like a pretty kick-ass grilled cheese spot.  Open for lunch!

So – anywhere I should try out that I missed????

Thanks for the list of new ideas. For the vegetarians out there, Bonnys on Notre Dame is one of my favorites for lunch out. It is an oldie but goodie !

I love seeing all the openings in Saint-Henri 😉
I think Le Bon Vivant is also open for dinner. I haven’t been yet, but their FB page makes it sound like they are open at night too. Or maybe I’m confused.

I think they are open for dinner too – I’m amazed by the number of restaurants who make it difficult to find opening hours!

Hello! St. Henri is wonderful for lunch options here are a few of my faves:
Campanelli (incredible meatball sandwich, brie/apple/homemade honey mustard sandwich – great Italian coffee)
    Triple B (Indian takeout/ buffet)
Buck 15 (toast with lovely jams)
Satay Brothers (Atwater market’s southeast asian with a secret location in winter)
Sushi Taxi (good lunch deals and innovative veggie sushi too!)

Why not Try Cafe Baci’s now Bagel St-Henri. Their Bagels seem small but well the hole in the middle is tiny or not there at all and their Poutine Bagel is great
