Topshop: I got Styled!

TOPSHOP WallSo.. as I mentioned last Thursday, I headed down to Topshop at the Carrefour Laval to take advantage of their free personal styling services.  I had participated in a personal stylist session at the huge Topshop store in London on Oxford Circus, and it was really a lot of fun.

See, the thing is, sometimes those stores scare me.  I end up just panicking and pulling the same old stuff.  And, I have questions like – what shoes do I wear with this?  What kind of top works?  What jewelry would you wear?  Plus, I love trying on stuff I never would have picked and seeing that it works.  Sometimes I need that little push.  Plus, it’s free and just look at those change rooms!

StylistAthena, my super sweet stylist for the day, asked me a bunch of questions by phone before I arrived to determine what I was looking for and so she could pull me a few looks.  I specified prints, fun, flirty, professional, age appropriate, comfy, no cream or draining colours, trendy but not too trendy.  I was looking for clothes that were stylish but that I could also crawl around the floor in, and a couple more professional outfits for when I have my writer’s hat on.

look 2We started out by checking some of the looks Athena pulled, which included this gorgeous sweater (here it is in white) which went all the way through to the final cut.  These pants fit my ‘comfy but stylish’ pants requirement but alas were cut too.  They were loose satin with elasticated bottoms.  It was one of those – what the hell type of shoes do I wear with that? moments, but Athena held my hand and walked me through it.  (OK – the hand holding was figurative)

sweaterI tried on all sorts of stuff including leather high waisted leggings, oversize grey sweaters, chunky knits, sweaters with fake fur sleeves….

1 piece…and this one piece which I NEVER would have picked and is hands down the comfiest thing I have every worn.  Better than jogging pants… better than anything.  Seriously, if you want comfort buy this one piece.  And yes, I bought it.  I thought it might be a bit Man Repeller, but the comfort level sold me.  And, I think it looks good too! (here it is but all in black)

skirtAnd this, which I think is my favourite look.  OK, first off, I would wear with nylons and not my freakishly white legs (there is black in the skirt to pick up on some black nylons, you just can’t see it so well but anyways white with black seems to be happening everywhere).  Plus, that necklace is so nice, and again something I would not have chosen.  I liked the shoes too, but again… can’t get everything!

So, Athena I think I’ll be seeing you again next spring!  I loved the experience, and I love all the stuff I bought and can’t wait to start wearing it!  Thank-you!
