We Can

So clearly I dropped the ball on International Woman’s Day yesterday but I thought about it a lot and was pretty uplifted by all the words and images I saw.

I was thinking about all the women in my life.  Everyone from my grandmothers to my mom to my friends and how each one helped developed how I think and what I think of myself. I learned from their example and this example of a strong woman is something I hope to show my two beautiful sons.

I am also uplifted by the women I see around me – both my friends and those who I would consider role models. Life can be tough.  Child-raising is tough, full of doubt and can be fairly lonely.  I don’t know how many times I shared tales of night time wake ups and vomit in sympathy with other women who were going through the same thing.  It made me feel better – camaraderie is important.

And so many women these days are choosing to blaze their own path in the work force.  It blows me away how many entrepreneurs I’m in touch with every day.  People, running your own business is HARD.  If it weren’t for the inflexibility, commute and lack of inspiration for what I did before – that bi-monthly paycheque seems like a dream.  Being your own boss is 100% worth it but it just cannot be done alone – that I am convinced.  If it weren’t for my team of entrepreneur women I meet with monthly and look to for advice and support I would not be CLOSE to where I am today.  (SO SUPPORT LOCAL ENTREPRENEURS!)

And thank-you to all of you.  This blog was a massive outlet for me through some of the lowest points.  As a side effect, if you could call it that, it forced me to do a huge amount of self reflection and I learned a lot about myself.

I hope we can continue to support each other on our journey – whatever that path may be.  There will be highs and there will be lows, but I truly feel if we support one another and grow together the journey will always be better.
