Good
I’ve been to Dion plenty.  You know us City workers – we enjoy our lunches!  Dion is a bit of a departure from the usual wine bars in the City.  No heavy wood, no dim surroundings, and no feeling like you have to be 60 years old to belong.  Dion’s would be the younger brother of say a Balls Brothers.  It’s brighter, trendier and has a little more life to it.

The service is perky, and even though today I had my table switched three times (long story and the server apologized profusely) we were well looked after.  Dion is good because the menu has the usual suspects  (fish & chips, fishcakes, steak etc. mostly priced GBP10-15 except the steak which is a bit pricier) and a good selection of sandwiches if you want something a bit lighter.  Today I had the smoked salmon sandwich as I wanted something light.  Unfortunately the bread could be improved a little, and the salmon had a pre-prepared lemon juice twang to it but it was OK.  Our portion of chips was generous (GBP2.75) and two of us shared.  The chips were perfectly cooked – crisp golden on the outside and tender on the inside.  As you would imagine there is a large selection of wines priced from GBP17 and up and a selection of wines by the glass.  I would suggest you ask for a table at the back which is a bit quieter as it can get a bit noisy (which is the same as pretty much every other City restaurant).

Dion used to be a bit of a regular for me.  There was an unfortunate incident during the World Cup (we booked a table for 12 to be shown a booth for 6….errr…….) and we stopped going, but I think I can now forgive them.  Plus, there are just some days when a glass of wine at lunch is oh so welcome!
Decor: Trendy, bright – it kind of yells ‘I am a young professional and love my wine!’
Price: Today my sandwich and chips came to around GBP8 which is not bad considering the surroundings.
Food: Typical bar food, but well executed.  Their curly fries are fab.
Good For: Casual business lunch, or drinks with friends.
